PASS Stock production tracking

Tracking a product through production processes

batch tracking withproduction line scanner
There are two reasons for wanting to implement production tracking as materials and components move through production processes. One is to maintain batch traceability of the raw materials. This means being able to trace a fault in a product back to the supplier and the material that caused the problem. The other reason is to verify that there was nothing wrong in any of the processes. Once you have a complete track of your production you can identify either  the problem within the process or the batch of materials that you have used in that part of the process. The PASS quality control module is integrated with the production batch tracking and records all quality tests. It configures each set of quality tests to match the product for the production run.

Production run number

To implement batch tracking you need production run numbers and an ID for each batch produced. In order to do this is is necessary do create a “Product number” or “Production number” for the production run. Then this number moves from process to process, acquiring the process numbers at each process point. For example when building a mechanical product you will have a mixture of processes. One type will be where you select and convert raw material in to components and others that involve assembly of the components.

Batch numbers

These will either be supplied by the raw materials supplier or created within the system on receipt of the goods.
The batch numbers can be auto generated within the PASS system and then printed as a barcode to affix to the bin or product depending on the packaging.
Additional batch numbers are generated for each process and the finished product. This means that a finished product will have several batch numbers in its production record and all of these are retrievable for answers to production batch questions in the event of complaints.

Quality Control

As product moves down a production line through several processes, quality control checks are made before the product moves on to the next process to achieve quality production control and correct problems as they arise. Quality control checks in manufacturing can be done quickly and efficiently using barcodes and we have integrated these into our system. We include quality control management software in our Production module. This PASS module records the creation of the product from the raw material and includes all intermediate process or assembly nodes. At each production stage a set of tests is run. After the production is complete further testing can be recorded like final inspection and sign off, packing or labelling to ensure the finished result is perfect.

Setting up the quality control tests

Each product whether it is an intermediate stage of product or a finished product can be allocated a series of tests to be carried out before passing the overall quality control check. The test are defined as a series of questions and answers. The tests are then defined as part of the product.

Monitoring the results

All batches are recorded with their test data, both inherited batches and new additions of supplementary materials. This provides a complete history of the product and in the event of subsequent complaint the reasons for failure can be narrowed down by inspecting the production records.

Free trial for two months
Try the software for a couple of months, adapt it to your system and test it to its limits. We are confident it will give you a quick payback for the small outlay and transform the way you control your asset register. Send us your details and we will give you the link and password to download the software from our download site. We will then help you to understand how it works and at the end of the trial period you can then decide whether to buy the system without losing any settings or data. A blank database and a demo database are included in the trial.
