Showroom ordering with a PDA

Buying products with a PDA in a store showroom

Ordering in a showroom with a PDA enables you to create an order for display items that are physically in the warehouse and get them delivered. It can be done by scanning sample products on shelves or by scanning from a catalogue. The procedure is to go round the showroom scanning the barcodes of the products you want to buy or scanning the barcodes in the catalogue with the PDA. Then the PDA uploads the order for processing. The goods will then either be retrieved by the order picker or picked later and delivered to your address.
When the customer comes to the store, he either scans a counter catalogue as in systems like Argos or selects items by scanning product barcodes. The customer then takes the PDA to the till and the order is uploaded for payment and receipt or invoice. With some PDA units payment can be made directly with online payment platforms thus reducing the intervention by sales staff to a minimum.
